Reflective Exercise
So the exercise we listened to was great. The unfortunate thing is that I could not enjoy it as I usually do because my mind kept wondering. This happens to me often. I have a hard time relaxing. Some say I don't know the term "relax". I have relaxed listening to mediatation CD's before and I felt rejuvinated afterwards. What I realized is that I need to this more often, making apart of my daily routine. What I did figure out with my wandering mind is that I will be turning my spare bedroom into a relaxation room in the next few months.

Amanda,
ReplyDeleteUsaually I have a hard time focusing my mind to any type of relaxation exercise. However, I really like the "guided imagery" of this CD. I love the soothing voice and he literally guids you to your next action. I think this is the best way for me to relax, maybe that is why I enjoy books on tape so much. Have you considered using exclusive meditation? This is where you pick one thing or one phrase to focus on, and that helps to clear your mind out so you can relax and get connected again. Well, just a thought. Great blog and I love all your pictures. Now I know exactly who I am talking/typing too :)

Maggie,
ReplyDeleteI usually do pretty well wih guided imagery, I will aslo try meditation.
Thanks!
I think I was just having an off day.
I can tell by your blog that you are a person that needs to be doing! I found it very interesting that during the relaxation excercise you came up with a new project-and a big one at that! Forced relaxation may seem like an odd thing to prescribe but your body will appreciate it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
ReplyDeleteSee! I knew I wasn't crazy. I just posted on another blog how my mind just keeps going and going. I can't stop thinking...well, unless I watch a movie, but then that makes me feel lazy. I think I prefer the yaking in my head. I did enjoy the relaxation exercise and it too worked for me. That's great that you will get a room to re-energize in. Maybe you could do some scented candles or something that will go along with the type of mood you want to be in that day....like cucumber and lemon will get you feeling fresh and happy (It does me anyway):)
ReplyDeleteGreat post Amanda!! I wish I could have a relaxation room!! I loved this exercise and I did struggle getting my mind to stop wandering also!! Scented candles are great too! Cucumber lemon sounds amazing, Aly!!
ReplyDeleteHey Amanda...
ReplyDeleteI suffer from the exact same thing. I try to relax and once I am, my minds starts thinking about the day's events or what needs to be done the next day. When I find myself wandering off, I try to immediately snap myself back into perspective, but 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work. I agree with you that we would probably get better at relaxing and meditation if we practiced it on a daily basis or get on a schedule of doing so. Like our readings have stated, we can train the mind, and we can train the mind to relax...we just need practice.
