Unit 8

Here we are in week 8 already. I can’t believe it!! This term flew and I am not complaining about that! I have learned a lot about myself through the exercises we have completed. I have learned what works for me and what does not. I found that meditation practices incorporated with yoga works well and visualization. I am the type of person that cannot just sit and let the mind go because I have constant mental chatter. I need something to focus on. Having yoga poses helps and having something to visualize on helps. This helps me stay focused and in the zone. After completing the exercises, I feel so refreshed. I have not engaged myself as much as I would like, but plan on continuing this. I do plan to continue these practices on a daily basis. It is just on hold for the moment. I have created a remodeling project that has turned into a bigger project! Gutting a bathroom and taking ceramic tile out of my foyer is a process. Therefore, once all this is complete I will turn my spare bedroom into my yoga and meditation room. I can not wait!!! I want to purchase of few more DVD’s and CD’s to help me continue on and also get my husband involved. I am so looking forward to the day I have a dedicated room!!!

  1. Amanda I think you need to "make a day". Save a day for your project and finish it in that day. Do nothing else that day except making up your meditation room. Put everything else on hold!!!! I have tiled entire houses in a one days time...it can be done. Once you get your project done I think that you will get much more out of your meditation and yoga times. That would be GREAT if you could get your husband to join with you. I tried to get mine, but he's not taking it seriously ;)

  2. Hi Amanda,

I agree with Aly I think you should take one day out and make up your meditation room because I thinking having it will encourage you to use it. I think it is great that you found something that works for you and yoga is great because it ecompasses mind, body and spirit so good for you!

  3. Hi Amanda,
Use your visualization techniques to help you finish your projects. Visualize the completed project so you know how much is left to do. Then visualize your meditation room. Visualize yourself in it and it will help motivate you to get it done sooner than later. I like using visualization in my life, but I'm not sure I'm using it correctly. I'm not sure it really matters if at the end of the practice, I feel calm and collected and ready to go. So I must be doing something right...lol. I need to learn to visualize my reactions and try to change them. I need to visualize how I might respond to something and if I don't like it, I need to respond in a different way; one that will make me happy. Visualization is a great technique either way we use it. Good luck with your renovations.

  4. Hi Amanda, sounds like a major project,I am planning a move to atlanta next year in may, I also have dedicated a room to meditation and jigsaw puzzles, kind of like my own personal " quiet girl zone"I am a very visual person, so I can see every detail of this room and I know exactly how it will affect me, the house is surrounded by trees and a walking path that I plan to get plenty of use from, perhaps I will even try bird watching.LOL

  5. Amanda,
Well, isn't remolding job always much more involved than you had anticipated? Best of luck to you when the dust settled...lol.

Getting our husbands involve is not an easy task; I must admit. My husband thinks yoga is not engaging enough for him so he is going to back to cycling again. Hey, whatever gets him outside, right?

Like you, this term just flew by but I wish I would have been able to get a better handle of it. I am glad and sad at the same time that this term is coming to an end.

I like doing yoga too! Let me know which DVD's or CD's you find most helpful. I like to keep a couple of the DVDs around for rainy days. Yoga really does keep you focused and it also keeps you flexible as well.

  6. This class did fly by rather quickly. It was truly a way of teaching yourself as well as telling your family and friends on how to achieve a subtle mind, learn meditation, visualization and calm abiding. Great class!

  7. I think a good way of implementing these practices into our lives is just trying a technique every day a few minutes and then as each day goes by add another five minutes and then you can achieve the optimum time you want.

  8. Hi Amanda,
I feel the same way. I have to have something to keep me focus, because I have a chattering mind also; but that's good because we can bring ourselves back into focus. And I'm glad the exercises helped you too, because the really helped me deal with issues that I thought was not going to go away, but they did an thanks to our exercise and our blogs that help us express our feeling and release our inner peace. I am so excited about your remodeling project and know when it is finish you and you husband will truly enjoy your meditation and yoga time together. Best of Luck with your project.

  9. Hi Amanda,
I think that maybe you need to force yourself to start doing it now. I know, I know, easier said than done. Nevertheless, if you are like me, saying that you will do it in the future will be an endless promise, if you know what i mean!! Your life sounds very similar to mine, always having too many irons in the fire. If only there were 2 or 3 more hours in the day!!!!
