Unit 6-Integral Assessment

I think that this is an excellent exercise to evaluate the area or areas that need a little more attention and practice. Sitting and being truthful to yourself helps you really understand the root of the problem and what needs improvement. It is definitely a growth process.

I learned that my psychospiritual flourishing is lacking. This is the area that I have not provided much attention too. I knew this was not an easy area for me, but it made it a little clearer as to why. This is where all my fear is. I am always seeking for more fulfillments in my life. I think by addressing this I will be working toward my mind, body, spirit connection. I have many emotions of fear and anger. My emotions are very reactive.

To improve this area I am going to have to still my mind more with meditation so I can get a handle on my emotions. Also yoga and qigong are other exercises I would like to try to incorporate. It is just unfortunate that most of this will be done in between school and work. My focus is mostly on school and work so I first need to find a few moments in the day to start working on this aspect of my life.

  1. Isn't it funny how we seem to be asked the same question over and over each unit, BUT (at least to me) it seems like I have a different answer OR I go more in depth on my answer. I have noticed in your earlier blogs you talking about lacking in psychospiritual area of your life...yet you explain it differently in the readings. I think this class is great on getting us to really focus on all 3 levels of health (mind, body, and spirit) by being able to actually spending some TIME and repetiveness with our thinking.

  2. Hi Amanda,

I understand your struggle for time because I have the same problem with juggling work and school. Finding "me" time is hard these days it really depends on the classes. This semester has been a bit easier than past semesters with two research papers due a week. I thought for awhile I was going to lose my sanity because I couldn't catch a break but only 3 more semesters to go so I am holding out. I think letting go is scary and and I can understand you fear with psychospiritual flourishing. Fear of knowing and fear of not knowing stop a lot of people dead in their tracks but fear can be good sometimes because it lets us know we are alive. You just can't let it rule your life, what I like to do is try one thing that I 've always wanted to do but was afraid to do. It could be big or small because small steps lead to big steps in the end, but what is important is building the confidence within to do it. Then when ever I feel scared I think to myself "you did blank so this is nothing." I guess we each have our own way of getting to the next level.

  3. Amanda, you really do remind me of myself, so much. I know exactly what I need to work on, I just struggle with the time frame in each day. My frustration with time gets in the way of so many things. I think back to when I was a college student (right after high school), or even before children, and I think of how much more I could have accomplished then. I wish I was aware of human floursishing. Just wish I had not wasted so much time....I know there will come a time in my life when I can devote most of my mental space to my spiritual life and not just a bunch of meaningless little "to do" lists.!

  4. Hi Amanda,
Yes this exercise was pretty good on evaluating the areas that we need to pay close attention to. And I think that you are doing great with your assessment of your self because we all at some point have to improve in an area of our life and with me too, it's my Biological aspect; I need to focus more on being fit and managing a regular workout regime to stay healthy. But you are doing great, keep it up and you will develop a firm psychopiritual flourishing experience; just try to focus on your inner peace of mind and it will happen for you.

  6. To be able to make time to meditate and position yourself in a calm abiding state of mind is truly a feeling of great inner peace and tranqulity. Sometimes in our busy schedules we tend to just go and go without taking time for ourselves and not just physically but mentally too.

  7. Hey Amanda,

I feel you when you talk about school and work being the priorities. It is hard to find time to meditate. I wish that we could actually focus on applying the things that we learn in the text till it registers and not move on because we are moving into a new unit =) I know that with time and practice your fears will diminish. Just be patient and you will get there. Sorry that this post is late.
